Creating a Sporting Chance
Programs Supporting People with a Disability to Participate in Healthy Activity
Students while coached by our staff teach the activity classes at DVSFC where people from local agencies and special schools attend. Students also teach the activity program off-campus at local special schools. Activities cover a wide range of physical skills including netball, soccer, tennis, bowls, cricket, ‘Gym 4 all’ , exercise to music, resistance training and individually designed activity experiences. The CASC program provides multi-faceted social, health and personal benefits for people with an Intellectual Disability and support staff. This promotes community inclusion and community access. The universities work with a number of local agencies, councils, special schools and State Sporting Associations that help to provide participants, sport-specific training, information, resources and program feedback and suggestions.
DVSFC, RMIT University and Victoria University continue to support the CASC through their respective work-integrated learning programs which allows. Individuals, schools and community groups pay a nominal fee to participate in the programs. Costs are carefully determined to ensure the CASC is both sustainable and affordable.
